ABOUT ME

Kelly Smith, R.N. &

Regulation Educator

I've got a lot to teach you.

I’m not just a holistic nurse, I am also a mom.

In our household we have had diagnoses of ADHD, gifted, dyslexia, PANDAS, sensory processing disorder, and anxiety. I am incredibly familiar both professionally and personally with how neurodevelopmental challenges affect children, families, and classrooms.

I’m Kelly Smith, mother, wife, nurse, educator, wrangler of three wild boys, lover of the beach, photography, healing, and lifelong book nerd.

I have coached parents and educators on behavior, mental health, sensory processing, discipline, connection, and the multiple holistic methods to better brains, bodies, and behavior.  Movement Matters is where I am able to connect with, coach, and support more families than ever before.

This isn’t just another parenting course.  I do my best to provide everything you need to improve your child’s (and your own) brain, body, behavior, and self-regulation.

MY STORY

Health, Movement, Wellbeing

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up.

So much of my life revolved around helping and teaching others, that nursing was a natural fit. I have been a nurse over 15 years and spent more than a decade working in psychiatric and neuropsychiatric research.

Little did I know how necessary these skills and education would be once I became a mother.

Motherhood has not been a walk in the park for me at all.

I am the mother of three boys all of who have struggled with various behavior challenges. In our household we have had the diagnoses of ADHD, Anxiety, Sensory Processing Disorder, Gifted, and PANDAS.

I understand the neurodiverse child from the perspective of a mother and a professional.

When I was trying to get help for my children, several pediatricians kept telling me it “was normal” and that it “must be my parenting”.

Their dismissal didn’t matter.

BUT MY CHILD DID.

I knew it was more than parenting, so I turned to the experts in research to help me.

From this collaboration I put together a framework to support my child’s teachers and their behavior at home.

Once we implemented these strategies at home including focusing on how to build regulation skills (and using simple FREE techniques that are proven to change the brain from the inside out) my boy’s lives were transforming.

The teachers were asking what we were doing, other parents were asking how they could learn from me. This was how Movement Matters was born.

I decided to find my voice and make some noise.

I am NOT going to give you a magic bullet. I am NOT going to help you “cure” your child.

But I will FOR CERTAIN show you step by step how you can help them build a better brain at home. Without going to one more appointment where you leave feeling confused. Without spending more money on copays and testing and still not having answers. Without feeling alone, because I am right there with you.

I have been in the trenches. I have received a call from school EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

I have had to pull my child from school and figure out homeschool until we could manage behaviors. I have lived through the struggle and fear of wondering exactly what would happen to my child in the future. Guess, what?you can help your child every day!

Imagine how the future could look if your child was able to manage their emotions, control their body, and connect with you and others in a meaningful way.

THIS IS WHY MOVEMENT MATTERS.

All movement helps, but using movements and strategies that support brain connections can be your secret weapon.
